When you’re working at Salem VA Medical Center for several weeks, you need a place to sleep between shifts and prepare meals on your own schedule. Your housing arrangements also need to account for the daily drive and a possible change in your assignment’s end date.

At Affordable Corporate Suites, our extended stay hotels welcome traveling nurses, medical staff and other professionals working away from home. Our Salem location offers furnished suites with full kitchens, included utilities and weekly housekeeping for stays of a week, a month or longer.

Plan your commute to Salem VA Medical Center

Salem VA Medical Center is at 1970 Roanoke Boulevard in Salem, Virginia. Our Salem property is at 401 Northern Drive. When comparing extended stay hotels in Salem, VA, check driving directions between the actual addresses for the time you expect to travel.

Before your first day, ask your assignment contact which campus entrance to use, where staff should park and which building you need to report to. Allow time to walk from the parking area to your department.

Our Salem property provides free onsite parking. Confirm parking arrangements at the medical center separately with your department or assignment coordinator. If orientation takes place in a different building from your regular work location, get directions for both. You can then plan your first arrival without relying on a route that simply ends at the hospital’s main address.

What our furnished suites include

Our furnished temporary housing includes a kitchen with a full-size stove and refrigerator, plus a microwave. You can buy groceries for several days, prepare meals before a shift and refrigerate food for later. Breakfast is not provided, so include groceries in your budget.

For shifts when you prefer to bring food, you can prepare it in your suite. Check the storage and reheating arrangements in your department before deciding what to pack.

We have laundry facilities on the property. For a multi-week assignment, that means you can wash scrubs and other work clothes without making a separate trip to a laundromat. Ask about laundry charges when you request your accommodation quote.

Weekly housekeeping includes a refresh cleaning and replenishment of towels and linens. If you expect to sleep during the day, discuss the housekeeping schedule with our manager before arrival. Knowing when the visit is planned helps you arrange your rest around it.

Our suites are smoke-free. Utilities and Wi-Fi are included. You do not need to arrange separate utility accounts for your stay, and you can use the internet for routine work and personal tasks.

Confirm the layout of the suite available for your dates. If you want a bedroom separate from the living area, ask for that layout when making your reservation. Our resident manager lives onsite and can answer questions about the property. Explain your shift schedule and any room preferences during the booking conversation so we can discuss the available options.

Get rates and terms for your full assignment

Request a quote for your expected arrival and departure dates. Our Salem property offers discounts for longer stays. There is no minimum stay, so request the nights you actually need. Compare quotes covering the same number of nights, with applicable taxes and any additional charges included, so you have a usable total for your housing budget.

Include any orientation days before the assignment begins. You may also need accommodation after your final shift, particularly if you finish in the morning and want to rest before traveling home. Check that your departure date allows for that time.

If an employer or staffing agency is paying for accommodation, find out what documentation it requires and who will make the payment. Ask our manager about the receipts or booking information you need before finalizing the reservation. Keep the confirmed quote with your assignment paperwork.

If you expect to go home between blocks of shifts, ask how those breaks would be booked and charged. Confirm whether the reservation continues while you are away and whether your belongings can remain in the suite.

Discuss date changes during the booking conversation. An assignment may be extended, shortened or delayed. Ask how each change would affect your reservation and charges, including whether a different rate would apply to additional nights. Our published policy requires three days’ notice before leaving; confirm how that notice applies to your booked stay and any early departure.

Also arrange your arrival time with our manager. If your travel schedule means arriving late, confirm the check-in arrangements in advance and provide a phone number where you can be reached. Have the reservation confirmation available when you travel, along with the property’s address and contact number.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to sign a lease for a multi-week stay?

No. We do not require a lease. Check-in follows a hotel-style process: you complete a registration card, pay for your suite and receive your key. Confirm your stay dates and payment arrangements with our Salem manager when reserving.

Can I extend my stay if my assignment runs longer?

You may request an extension. Contact our manager as soon as you know your assignment dates have changed, then confirm availability and the rate for the additional nights. An extension should be confirmed before you count on keeping the suite.

Do I need to bring cookware, towels or bedding?

We provide pots and pans, cooking utensils, silverware, plates and glasses. Towels, bed linens and pillows are also supplied. Bring your clothes, groceries and personal items. If you use a particular kitchen item regularly, ask whether it is provided.

Can two coworkers share one suite?

Each suite accommodates a maximum of two adults and has one queen-size bed. We do not offer suites with two bedrooms. If each coworker needs a separate bed, speak with our manager about booking separate suites for your assignment dates.

Can I bring a pet?

We do not allow pets at our locations. If you plan to travel with a pet during your assignment, you will need to arrange accommodation that accepts pets.
