If you’re staying at a hotel for an extended amount of time, you don’t want to just live out of your suitcase. However, unpacking at a hotel can be difficult since your closet space is limited.

Are you wondering how to organize a small closet with lots of clothes? What about storing them in a way that doesn’t cause wrinkles?

Don’t waste your valuable time trying to get out wrinkles when you should be enjoying your trip. We’re going to breakdown how to store clothing in a hotel to avoid wrinkles so you can fully unpack and feel comfortable in your temporary home.

1. Bring Your Own Hangers

Hanging your clothes is the best way to avoid wrinkles, but hotel closets usually only include a handful of hangers. To make sure you have enough to hang all of your clothes, bring your own hangers.

If you don’t have space in your suitcase to bring your own, buy some from a nearby superstore when you get there. You can also ask the hotel staff for more hangers; however, hotel hangers are usually really big.

You’ll be able to fit more clothes into the closet if you bring or buy your own hangers that are smaller. The best option for space-saving hangers are ones made from wire.

2. Hang Up Your Most Wrinkle-Prone Clothing

Folding some clothes and storing them in the dresser may be inevitable if the closet doesn’t have enough space. If this is the case for you, make sure to prioritize hanging your clothes that are prone to wrinkle when folded.

Cotton, linen, and rayon have a greater chance of wrinkling when folded, so make sure you hang any clothes made from those materials. Wool, silk, cashmere, acrylic, nylon, and polyester resist wrinkles, so it is safer to stow them in the chest of drawers.

3. Don’t Overcrowd Your Clothes

Space-saving hangers are a genius hack; however, you should still be careful not to overcrowd your clothes in the hotel closet. Overcrowding them will just lead to more wrinkles, especially if they are freshly washed and still damp.

Clothes are most prone to wrinkling when they are damp, so make sure you give them plenty of space. If they need to dry a little more, hang them somewhere else in the room, like on a door frame or curtain rod. This will let them air out more before you put them back in the closet with other clothes.

4. Steam Clothes While You Shower

If your clothes are wrinkled and you don’t have the time or space in your hotel room to iron them, simply steam while you shower instead. This is multi-tasking at its finest.

All you have to do is hang the clothes in your bathroom while you shower, and the steam that fills the room from the hot water will naturally de-wrinkle your clothes. If the clothes need longer to steam, just leave the water running with the door closed after your done showering.

5. Don’t Fold Your Pants

Pants wrinkle more than other types of clothes, especially dress pants with creases. Avoid this by hanging all of your pants in the closet. If you do need to fold them, try to only fold them one time.

6. Use a Closet Clothes Organizer

Closet organizers can help you save a lot of space so that you can hang more of your clothes. One great option is an over-the-door shoe organizer so that your shoes don’t take up valuable room in the closet.

Another option is cascading hangers. You can hang multiple items of clothing on one hanger, so it only takes up the space of one hook. You can also get tiered pants hangers so you can’t hang multiple pairs on the same hanger and keep them all from wrinkling. Using at least one hanging clothes organizer will increase the number of clothes you can fit into your hotel closet.

7. Roll Your Clothes

When you are packing for your trip, try rolling your clothes instead of folding them in your suitcase. This will prevent them from wrinkling during travel, which will save you a lot of ironing time when you get to your extended stay hotel.

When you arrive at your extended stay hotel, unpack immediately. This will help you feel more comfortable and keep your clothes looking their best.

Keep the clothes that you’re going to store in the chest of drawers rolled up instead of folding them. This hack will keep everything from your t-shirts to your socks wrinkle-free!

8. Buy a Second Clothing Rack

If your hotel doesn’t have a big enough closet to hang all of your clothes, you can get a cheap stand-up clothing rack from a nearby superstore. They are easy to assemble and won’t take up much space in your room.

They usually come on wheels, so you can easily move them out of the way when needed. If you’re going to be somewhere for a few months, an investment like this is worth it to increase your closet space and avoid wrinkled clothing for a stress-free stay.
