There is no shortage of Oktoberfest festivals throughout Roanoke. They start as early as September 22 and some don’t end until November 16. Are you a wine lover? Then check out the Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest.

4. Pumpkin Patches and Hay Rides

They’d also have a blast at the Boones Mill Apple Festival, where there are activities and games for all ages. The Apple Festival has been so popular, this is the 42nd year running.

Finally, there’s always a run to support a charity or a football game to watch. Check out games at Virginia Tech. Or take part in any one of dozens of 5Ks, half-marathons, or full marathons.

Many of these runs support great causes like the Rescue Mission. They provide over 250,000 meals to homeless and hungry families.
